P2 Reader For Mac

My client has a powerbook and can plug his Panasonic P2 card right into the card slot, but is wanting to upgrade to the new mac pro. I wonder if there is a card reader that can either be plugged into a usb or firewire port or some other solution that will allow him to read his P2 card directly into the Mac Pro, other than the $1800 Panasonic P2 reader with the built in hard drive etc, that seems overkill for this.
I know he could use the powerbook to access the card and copy files onto a firewire external which could then be plugged into the mac pro, but I'm looking for a more elegant solution.
thanks in advance.
