Dazzle Usb Card Reader
If the card reader is being recognized and installed fine by not only your main system but other systems as well and just will not actually read the cards then I would have to say you have a problem with the device itself. I would try a different card reader if that is possible.

While it is true that XP recognizes more USB devices than previous versions of Windows, there are still many USB devices that will not function properly without the manufactures drivers.
Card readers are in this class.
Download and install the latest driver from Dazzle, then connect the reader and it should work properly.
The installed memory card should show up as a removable drive in Windows Explorer and My Computer.
Chas
The manufacturer does not require any drivers for XP.
Dazzle Card Reader
The note for the Dazzle card readers that they do not require drivers only means that Windows XP includes the required drivers. They still need to be installed!
Checking over the FAQ section at www.ziocorp.com they offer this advice:
'Q - I get no drive letter when plugging in my Dazzle 10 in 1 reader.
A - Plug the reader into the USB port on your PC. The issue is that there is no drive letter and you can verify this by checking My Computer and seeing this.
Right click on the My Computer icon and scroll down to Properties
Click the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Near the bottom of the list there will be an entry for USB Devices. Here the reader will probably be listed as a DFU adaptor.
Right click and select Update Driver
Click the Install from a specific location button
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install
Select USB Mass Storage Device
The drivers will install. Unplug the unit and plug it back in and the device will show up with two drive letters in My Computer'
There is also a registry hack for a specific Intel chip-set and problems with Dazzle readers.
Chas
There is a drive recognized by XP when I plug in the reader, and mass storage device driver is also installed properly in the device manager. It will not read any cards that are installed. I have tried two separate units and get the same results.
It sounds like the actual data on the cards cant be read by the system. Much like having a zip file and not having winzip installed. If the system is seeing the drive is it reporting any data? What are the file extensions if data is reported?

SOLUTION 1 - Verify if minimum system requirement is met.
SanDisk card readers support Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 7.
NOTE: No additional drivers need to be downloaded for the card readers as they are native to the above mentioned supported operating systems.
For Mac users, seeTroubleshooting USB device on Mac
SOLUTION 2 - Verify the reader's status under Device Manager.
STEP 1 - Connect the reader to the PC
NOTE: It is recommended that you plug your card reader to the back USB port on your PC to ensure that there is enough power from the USB port for the card reader to be detected properly.
STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer.
2. Select Manage.
3. On the left pane, click Device Manager.
NOTE: The card reader will appear in two places: Disk Drives and Universal Serial Bus controls as USB Mass Storage. If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) next to the device, try to refresh the drivers.
STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
STEP 4 - Verify if the reader is detected
1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Look for the card reader under Devices with removable storage.
SOLUTION 3 - Try other USB ports.
A yellow exclamation point (!) under Device Manager usually means that the device is not receiving enough power. If the reader is not receiving ample amount of power from the USB port, it may not function properly.
SOLUTION 4 - Change the drive letters
NOTE: The SDDR-89, SDDR-189, SDDR-289 reader should show 4 drive letters underMy Computer.
